How did I get here?

How did I get here?

ADHD has been one of the biggest blessings of my life. Although it causes me to feel distracted,

zoned out, or be out of touch with my current surroundings, I have learned to embrace this

specific aspect of my life. I used to think that zoning out and going into a “daydreaming state”

was a terrible thing… that it was something that needed to be fixed about the way I lived my life.

In reality though, it was the exact opposite. I realized that some of my best ideas and most

creative moments had come from times of daydreaming. Why? Daydreaming is simply your

mind unlocking itself to cure a sense of boredom, but to also cure a crave for ideating like we did

as kids. It’s why we even have dreams when we sleep in the first place, because our minds are

naturally born to do things like ideate and dream. Once I began embracing and cultivating the

uncertainty of my daydreaming, my life has progressively become better and better. At the same

time, my ideas and creativity have become more spontaneous and fun to explore.

To answer the tagline of “how did I get here?”, I got here because I daydreamed and eventually

acted upon it. Acting upon daydreaming has been one of the most impactful changes I’ve made

in my life for creativity and every idea I’ve ever come up with. It has brought a spontaneous and

exhilarating touch to my life that I had been trying to stuff down.

I’ll leave you with this… the next time you find yourself daydreaming, write down every single

idea and thought on a post-it note. You never know where it’ll take you, what great big ideas

you’ll come up with next, and what spontaneous decisions you’ll make because of it.
