Be Where Your Feet Are
Telling others to be present and to live in the moment are often coined as helpful advice, especially from our elders. In college, these phrases are thrown around all the time - soon to be graduated seniors telling freshman to enjoy their time because it goes by quicker than they’ll know is a common example of this. As a first semester junior, this is starting to become real, but, is telling someone to live in the moment sufficient advice? After wrestling with the concept of this for some time, I’ve struggled to understand how to actually be present.
Be where your feet are. Literally. The phrase “be where your feet are” provides literal instruction to help us live in the moment. Next time you think about needing to be more present, or wanting to start living in the moment, look down at your feet, recognize where you are, and there you go.
We hear the advice to live in the moment so often, but why? Living in the moment, or being where your feet are, allows us to accomplish a variety of things.
Being where your feet are allows us to be more creative, worry less, have more fun, remember small moments. It grounds us.
