Passion & Priority
One of my truest loves is cooking. I grew up wanting to become a chef and creating everything I
could out of whatever we had in the kitchen. The first food I ever experimented with was a can
of Campbell’s tomato soup to which I added various herbs and gave it to my siblings when they
were sick. My family and friends told me that becoming a chef was impractical and wasn’t what I
thought it would be. While this advice pushed me toward a career I love, my free time is still
consumed with the thoughts of food. Whether I am happy, stressed or sad I retreat to the
kitchen and create. To me, cooking is the pinnacle of my creativity. It is where I do not fear
judgement, can allow all of my senses to work and I trust every instinct. Not only do I love to
cook myself but I love showing others how to make the things they’ve always wanted to try.
There is no purer joy than sharing a meal with someone and watching them be proud of the
dishes they have made.
When I sit down and try to figure out where my priorities are I compare them to my love of
cooking. If I truly love something, I will make it a part of every day, I will share it with those
around me and I will do it without fear of failure.
