Chancing the little wins now to get the big one later
By Egor Zotov
When you think about a golfer you always want to know what the outcome of their round is. But never want to know what goes behind the numbers that generally define the athletes.
For me, I am guilty of looking at myself as a number, always looking at the depth chart to see where I line up against others.
You always think you are the “man” when you come from high school but are always humbled when you come to compete against collegiate athletes. For me, that slump took over two years to come out from. The overanalyzing, over-comparing, and overthinking never helped me in the long run as I was focused on the “Big” wins.
The difference that I have noticed is my ability to make my preparation feel more like a real performance has significantly improved in the last few months due to my more structured approach to practice looking at the day at hand and not the goal ahead. This process was simple which I discovered when I was looking back at my practice journals from my junior year of high school. It was as simple as going into my notes app and logging in all the drills that I wanted to accomplish and a short reflection after each session. So days it is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel it is always good to see the small wins I make daily.
