I’ve faltered and failed many times throughout my life. I’ve failed to seize opportunities, I’ve failed to get things done on time, and I’ve failed to do things at all. My most common failure, for much of my life, has been a lack of action.

The solution is action. As I’ve become more involved around campus and grown as a person, one of my all-time favorite lessons has been to swallow the frog. To swallow the frog means to start off your day with a difficult or unappealing action so that you feel accomplished and ready to take on the day.

I now start every day with an 8 AM meeting with the executive members of the student organization I head. I wake up every morning dreading the meeting and wanting nothing more than to cancel it or get it over with quickly. Yet every morning I end the meeting smiling and feeling like I’m ready to take on the day. These meetings have given every day purpose, motivation, and an early rush of endorphins accompanied by a feeling of accomplishment.

What frog can you swallow in the morning to get ready to take on your day?
