BRAIN BLINK BY ZACH GOLDSTEIN

Why is it that some of our best ideas come to when we are in the shower? From finally figuring out the answer to number 7 in the morning crossword puzzle, to finding the next breakthrough project for your company, ideas and solutions are often realized when our brains are in idle time. This concept, where our brains turn inward to spark creativity is called “Brain Blink.”

As a busy college student, finding time to focus on creativity and problem solving can be hard. Between loads of homework and exams, soccer practice, and fraternity events, I am constantly on the move, working to just “get it done.” I’ve always considered myself creative, and love figuring out puzzles. With all these distractions and obligations, I have learned to take advantage of the idle time, so I can enjoy one of the best benefits of being human: to let my mind wonder into the land of innovation, imagination, and moments.

Albert Einstein once said, “If I had an hour to solve a problem, I’d spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and 5 minutes thinking about the solution.” So, here are some tips to maximize your “Brain Blinks”:

1. Un-Plug Yourself (No Technology)

2. Keep it Routine

3. Cancel Out the Noise

4. Begin Relaxed and Stay Relaxed

5. Make it “ME” Time
