THE POWER OF THE PIVOT BY SUSY JARAMILLO
*Me at my MMG meeting 5 days before the semester-long client project is due*
My brain:
Don’t say it
Don’t say it
Don’t say it
Don’t say it
Don’t say it
Don’t say it
Don’t say it
Don’t say it
Don’t say it
Don’t say it
Don’t say it
Don’t say it
Me:
“Guys, I think we need to pivot”
Most everyone would agree that a pivot can be very daunting, which is why people are so afraid
of pivoting. However, a successful pivot is the ultimate demonstration of the creative mindsets.
In order to pivot- and do it well, you must embrace the ambiguity of not knowing what the
outcome will be, silence the hell out of your VOJ and identify the failures related to the
previous solution and figure out how to overcome them with a pivot.
Pivots are a beautiful thing and I encourage you to always be open to the idea of pivoting as it
provides a great opportunity for generating new ideas that are creative and could be a better
solution to the problem you are solving.
