This past week, many of us participated in creativity city in some way. Over the course of the four days, I spoke to over 300 people talking about creativity, yet every person I spoke to, I said something similar. Sure, my responses or speech varied slightly from person to person, but the over all gist was the same, because in each conversation I was talking about the message my plot was teaching. Through that repetition, not only did multiple people learn something about creativity, but I did as well. I think often times creativity is viewed as having to be completely different from anything ever seen and repetition is seen as a negative. But in reality, repetition creates room for variation, for small differences that grow into larger ones. Repeating processes and past ideas create the opportunity for betterment and improvement in everyday things. At our plot, my team talked about how creativity is sometimes as simple as changing one thing in something you already know. So, look for repetition in your everyday life and ask yourself how you can change it just a little to yield a different outcome.
