THE IMPORTANCE OF PLAY BY KELSEY HAUS
Moving through the creativity classes in the Entrepreneurship department, I have learned an important lesson that I struggle with daily; The importance of playing like a child. Creativity is taking yourself back to questioning and laughter. Going back to questioning and laughter begins with playing like a child. I acknowledge the importance of living out this lesson but struggle to live it in my daily life. I tend to take my life seriously and forget to have fun and laugh on the daily.
For me, playing like a child is when I am with my three-year-old cousin, Henry. Whenever I am with him, I get to slow down and laugh. When I spend time with Henry, I realize that I am my most creative and fun. I tend to be in a different mindset when I am with my cousin. We can make a whole world inside a box. Play restaurant with nothing but an empty plate. Play castle in a living room for hours. Playing off his imagination sparks my creativity, but it is limited to the few times I am home to play with Henry.
Challenge: Every day I will push myself to imagine, play, and laugh. (Even without my cousins!) I challenge you to do the same.
