CREATIVITY IS A MYTH BY BRYANNA JOHNSON
Creativity is a myth.
Okay, I lied. It’s not a myth, in fact it’s something that drives day to day life. There is a common myth associated with the word creativity though. In elementary school I dreaded art class. I rarely made it into the school art show and it was never fun for me, and I convinced myself that it was simply because I was not creative.
But here’s the thing I learned a little too late, creativity isn’t a box. The myth around creativity revolves around the belief that you are either creative or not. It took me a while to discover the creativity that is present in my life. I’m creative in how I manage to fit a nap into my schedule as much as possible (and still manage to get my homework done), and I’m creative in how I tackle problems that come my way.
I wish I could go back and tell little Brynna that she was creative and to climb out of the box that was convincing her she wasn’t good at art, but creativity shines through discovery. My creativity creeped out when I discovered who I am and what I thrive at.
