GETTING COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR CREATIVITY BY BOBBY STRENK

Creativity is unlearned; it is one of the most important traits we are born with. However, after years of schooling that child-like creativity seemed to have simmered away. Gone were the days where I asked hundreds of questions out of curiosity or went to go build something that has only ever been drawn up in my imagination. Throughout the years, and even more-so in college, I got to the point where I did not believe I was creative. I sheltered myself by not showing my work to others because I became afraid of what negative feedback I might receive. Thats when I realized maybe I was overthinking the whole concept of creativity. I was taking it too literally. I finally started grasping my personal creative mindset when I came to realize that everyone is creative in their own beautiful and unique way. No two people have the same creative mindset. Coming to understand that helped me accept that I am a creative person just in a different way than everyone else. My ideas are no better or worse than any another individual; just different and unique. The truth is there is no first right answer when it comes to an individuals creativity. Creativity is all about expressing yourself and in order to do so you must be comfortable with yourself. A huge part of being comfortable with expressing yourself is silencing your VOJ and being okay with who you are.
