Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Sitting down and being creative can be hard.
It can be hard to push aside everything else running through your head, including your own VOJ when you are alone in a room trying to brainstorm new ideas.
But when you put together the minds of 4 people, differing in perspectives, experiences, and thought processes, it makes it a little easier to be open and ignore your VOJ because we are all sharing an experience together. We are all supporting each other’s ideas, actively listening, and being empathetic to what we all have to say.
Like many other experiences, having others to relate to and create a relationship with makes life a bit more bearable. I had the pleasure of working with 3 wonderful people this semester, 3 people who have influenced me and played a hand in crafting my new opinion of creativity and leadership. They were empathetic when I was struggling to be present in meetings, encouraged my ideas and thoughts, and held honesty in our conversations and work to a high standard.
While you do not always get to work with a team, the ability to practice the tools of creativity while working with others who have experienced life a different way than you can make all the difference. Being able to take on the challenges of this semester with them has allowed me to share my failures and what I learned from them openly, fostering my resilience towards ambiguity and aiding me in understanding how failure pushes me to grow. Not only have they been alongside in my learning but I have been able to use the tools in this class to truly understand who they are as people and creative, developing a deep appreciation for the people they are and what they value.
No matter, if it is people you get to know in a semester or people you have known your whole life, the support, and knowledge from those around you, allow you to become a better leader and push you to be the true creative you are, no matter what barriers you may face throughout your creative journey.
