My Least Favorite Food
Everyone has a least favorite food – olives, anchovies, blue cheese, etc. – and I understand some of those. My least favorite, however, isn’t my least favorite because of the flavor. Rather, it’s about repetition.
Growing up, I always spent Sundays with my dad. When it came time for dinner, we were usually on a time crunch because he played basketball Sunday nights. This meant we would have the same, boring dish every single week. Lasagna. Week after week. Month after month. For six months. I appreciated the effort more than anything, but I haven’t had it since. It’s now a running joke in my family. We call it the unspeakable “L” word and laugh everytime someone else mentions it.
The point of this story is about way more than what I used to eat for dinner on Sundays. If you never change your habits or try new things, you’re going to get bored and burnt out. Each day, I try to find new ways to make the repetitive parts of my life more fun. Set your alarm at a different time. Wear something new. Walk a different path to class. Meet new people. Have something NEW for dinner.
Life gets boring when we get comfortable.
