DIRECTING PAIN AND ANGER TOWARDS ART

DIRECTING PAIN AND ANGER TOWARDS ART

I have been into fashion since I was really young, and I have known it's what I want my career to be since I was in middle school. For me fashion started as a method of self expression, a means of showing off my creativity and how I was feeling that day based on what I was wearing.

As I got older and got my own design ability through researching and the imitation of others, my focus became much less on specifically what I am wearing but rather making clothes for other people to express themselves. Much like a musician all of my emotions go into the work that I make, most of which never sees the light of day. Any time I am dealing with something, good, bad or terrible I pour out those feelings into my work. It's an area where I can express myself freely without the feeling of judgment, though it’s constantly getting judged lol.

As an example and again to relate clothes to music, a musician can talk about a crime in a song but can't be tried on their lyrics. With clothes I can make a design that is a direct insult to someone following my work who made me mad (something I do a little too often) and there is nothing they can do about it because I didn't say it, the clothes did.

Though that example is just a fun perk rather than the purpose of what I do, having an outlet to freely express myself makes it much easier to deal with the internal or external conflicts I may have, as well as just the ups and downs that come with life. My clothing allows other people to feel as though they have someone who gets what they are going through and it shows me as well that there are people on my side.
