THE JOURNEY OF SELF AWARENESS BY JAKE RANSBOTTOM
In everyday conversation we often find ourselves thinking of our own feelings, response, or quick solutions rather than actively listening to the other person. It’s only human nature to find the quickest route to success.
We all have our own values and perspectives, it’s important to have that nailed down with logic and evidence. However, for creativity (and therefore innovation and therefore value/meaning), what’s much more important is what you don’t know.
Attempting to understand what you don’t know is vital to creativity and the root of empathetical understanding. Only once the problem is clearly defined, and we know what’s understood, assumed, and unknown, can we develop goals and procedures.
Becoming Self-Aware of our own perspectives, values, and biases, is also necessary. Only then, can we identify what we don’t align with, or don’t yet understand, and attempt to figure out why. This is a recipe for insight.
It’s only human nature to “fall in love” with your own values, ideas, methods of doing things, but dropping your personal thoughts & biases is critical to empathetic understanding. As problem solvers, we are always caught in the moment, thinking unidimensionally. We must have the wisdom to stop, step back, and Detach from the current situation. Detach from the moment we are in and look at the Bigger Picture.
Becoming Self-Aware of what you don’t know, actively listening & using empathy to gain insights & knowledge is the path to success & self-fulfillment
Why?
Because You Can.
