WHAT IF IT WORKS OUT? BY JADA MCCLENDON
Perfectionism leads to inaction. I have realized that my perfectionism causes me to sit with doubt when in reality I am nowhere near perfect.
I believe if you want to see a change, it all begins with your mindset. A question I once asked myself was,” Why are you your biggest critic?”. We already live in a society where judgment is second nature, so this on top of nitpicking everything I do becomes exhausting. I have to make a conscious effort to be kinder to my mind daily, because what you say to yourself often becomes your reality. And like I said before, I am nowhere near perfect.
Silencing my VOJ has been my biggest struggle creatively. It's very easy to start to tune into the negative and what could go wrong. That’s why this mindset shift can take time and requires practice.
Through growing as a creative, I have challenged myself to accept failure as a way to learn and not as weakness. I learned we discover best through failure. And when it happens, because it will, it is not final.
Our mind is truly a powerful tool we can utilize to see the change we want to see. So begin to switch your mindset to see possibilities instead of defeat.
Be you. The imperfect, learning, and growing you. Creativity lies in the imperfection, sometimes the only thing stopping us is ourselves.
