As I stand in my room here in Oxford, OH and look around I find myself feeling that the room is missing something. I already have put up all the decor I thought I wanted in the space, but a particular area right between my desk and bed seemed to be lacking in my opinion. The space was about 2 feet in length and 4 feet in height. I started to look online for room decor that fit into what aesthetic I was looking for and currently had going on in the space and found some pieces that I liked, but wasn’t in love with. The pricing of the pieces were also not to my liking either. I knew I had the materials to make some decor pieces in my closet here, but was also lacking some elements that were needed to create what I had in mind. So I looked at what I had and what was available around me and found some printer paper, bristol paper, and cardboard. I immediately ruled out printer paper because I knew it was going to get all wavy if I put any type of paint on it and it was between bristol paper and cardboard. But then I started to think why limit myself to using only one media? I could use both. I then started to brainstorm on what I wanted to actually draw or paint and came up with the idea of cutting different sized pieces of paper and cardboard and together they would create an art piece that would fit into the dedicated space.

I started to just paint and draw whatever came to mind and made multiple pieces. I didn’t get mad when whatever I was drawing didn’t quite come out as I envisioned it and instead went with the flow of how the piece was turning out and continued on the new direction it was taking. I didn’t want to choose a shape for any of the pieces and instead waited until they were done to see what called to me in a creative sense. I also didn’t stick to what was normal and experimented with different colors. In the end I ended up with about 9 art pieces that were different sizes and shapes and decided to use them all!
