Default: Uncomfortable
Experimentation, & Failure is the Birthplace of Learning.
Humans are hard-wired to memorize & apply the quickest path to success.
This beautiful skill distinguishes the brilliance of human consciousness, but at the same time
prohibits further growth.
The use of familiar tactics is the decision not to diverge in thought. Education typically occurs in
a linear manner, with at least one foot in the unknown, iteratively experimenting, learning, and
applying while constantly adding more knowledge to the toolkit. If you’re not iteratively
learning, you’re merely surviving with what you already have.
All Education is built on this fact, that Experimentation, Failure, Iteration: Creates Learning. &
Growth.
In an uncomfortable, unfamiliar situation, one is barricaded outside of the familiar tactics &
knowledge which they know. You are put outside the comforting walls of your knowledge, and
given no choice but to experiment, iterate, constantly learn & adapt until a solution is
developed.
Our earliest ancestors dichotomized the use of familiar tactics against Iterative learning.
It is Iterative Learning through experimentation & failure that created the great human
societies we enjoy today.
So the next time you’re uncomfortable, by judgment, setting, situation, knowledge, or anything
else…. Know you will gravitate towards the path of familiarity.
I encourage you to ask yourself about the judgment you may have felt, being a lone nut,
attaching a metal key to a flying kite in a thunderstorm, just to see what will happen.
Get Uncomfortable. What do you have to lose?
