CONFORMITY HINDERS CREATIVITY BY FRIEDA LIU

CONFORMITY HINDERS CREATIVITY BY FRIEDA LIU

I believe that as humans, we are here to be our authentic selves, find our purpose, and connect with each other.  Any person who changed the world did not do so by conforming to everyone else.

As a child, I had high aspirations. I had questions, I was curious, and I wanted to stand out. Growing up, this changed for me as I was always told “no”, to follow rules, and fit into a standard.

By conforming to everyone else, I believe that creativity became a struggle for me. I focused on efficiency by trying to do things the right way the first time, otherwise I felt like I failed. This has left me with very little space for imagination.

It took me way too long to recognize that conforming to other people does not benefit you at all. I am now dedicated to making creativity more ubiquitous in my life. There is nothing wrong with taking up space, asking questions, being bold, and failing forward. Failure is not only expected but it is also accepted.
