SOME OF YOU ARE BORING BY SYMANTHA KOMOLA
During the first few weeks of junior year, I had a professor describe some of his students as boring. Compliant. Unable to live a life of value and passion because school has killed students’ ability to use the creative side of their brain.
Ever since I was in middle school, I had a fear of standing out. I never wanted to be viewed as different or weird, especially since I was already viewed as the “teacher’s pet”. However, since venturing into the entrepreneurial world, I realized that I was doing everything wrong.
I would never ask questions in class. I would never want to say the wrong answer. I would never want to make a mistake. I was not embracing any aspects of the learning processes.
So, once my professor described some of us as boring, I decided it was time to change. Each and every day since that class, I have found a way to make a statement through personal expressions and actions. Each day I have challenged myself to try something new or different, even if it is simply entering through a different door of Farmer. And most importantly, I told myself that it is good to be unique.
