THE STRESS OF CREATIVITY BY MASON DOHERTY
For some, creativity is no more difficult than taking their next breath of air; but for most, finding a way to unleash their creativity can be a frustrating and grueling process.
Obviously we’re taking courses like entrepreneurship in order to hone in on our creativity, but for so long, we’ve been taught to write in a certain format, sit down and wait until the end for questions, to stay reserved in our own thoughts unless being called on. And while it seems like we are constantly hearing “I’m here to give you back the creativity you lost in high school,” I still find myself reverting back to the ‘sit down and shut up’ mentality.
The most helpful piece of advice (for this issue) that I’ve gained from this course thus far is to silence my voice of judgment. While I tend to take risks, I feel that my voice of judgement has held me back from an uncountable number of experiences or opportunities. Even though I have not entirely eliminated that little voice in the back of my head, I’ve found myself becoming more confident in not only what I’m saying, but also in how I am presenting myself. So if you ever find yourself holding back, just remember that no one thinks about you as much as you do yourself. Stop caring about what others think and let the ideas flow.
