CREATIVITY IN TIMES OF DARKNESS BY GRAHAM DESANTO

CREATIVITY IN TIMES OF DARKNESS BY GRAHAM DESANTO

How am I Creative?

Well, you can clearly see my creativity if you look at this photo and ask yourself, what’s the

deeper meaning here?

Look closely, you can see by my facial expression that I am exhausted and there is a reason for

this.

Most people would also notice that my hands are forming a “T”; a universal symbol for a timeout

in the sports world. I am doing this to symbolize a timeout that I had to take from normality.

Sometimes in life, you call the timeouts, other times life calls the timeouts for you.

I experienced this first hand when I tore my meniscus, which eventually required 2 surgical

repairs on my knee and auto-immune disease as a consequence.

As I could no longer partake in the creative art of sports, I quickly realized I needed to change

my canvas.

So I bought a literal canvas where a new form of creativity began to flow out of me.

At this point in my life, I began to envy the simplicity of my childhood so I painted what reminded

me of simpler times in the form of my favorite cartoon character, the pink panther, and my old

imaginary friend, giraffrey.

I surrounded these characters in an indescribable pattern filled with shapes and vibrant colors to

symbolize how I felt as I reminisced on the care-free and painless life I once lived.
