CREATIVITY KILLER BY MADISON KRELL

CREATIVITY KILLER BY MADISON KRELL

armer kills my creativity.

Every time I walk into Farmer, the dingy yellow walls consumer my thoughts. I never refill my water bottle there because of my dislike of the water fountain water. There’s never anywhere for me to have a space to do my work.

But I can still be creative in Farmer.

This year I competed in three different innovation weekends; two of them were in the basement of Farmer, the other one was in a dank hotel that smelt of smoke (both kinds).

But I was still able to be creative.

For all three of the weekends, I filled a backpack up with my creative press: Christmas lights to brighten the room, a diffuser to make the place feel homier, lots of blankets and pillows to be able to sit back and relax, a pitcher with lemonade so I could still be hydrated and not have to taste Farmer’s water, a fan to cool down my team after working 16-hour days.

Every time someone new walked into our room, they were amazed by the atmosphere. They ended up staying there longer and coming back more frequently. My team and I didn’t feel our creativity fading away as other teams did because we had created an environment where we were comfortable.

If you haven’t utilized creative press and changing your environment, I urge you to do so.

Don’t let Farmer or anywhere else kill your creativity.
