LIFE IS ABOUT WINNING BY MICHAEL KEEN
When I was in high school, I was the hustler. I worked for my grades and I was proud when I got accepted into accredited universities. The only problem, I played school. I would wake up, go to practice, then classes, then go to practice again. Then I would come home and do my homework before I went to bed. Only to do it all over again the next day.
I realized about halfway through my college career that I was doing this same mindless routine in some way all over again. But then I asked myself a question that has stuck with me from then on.
“What am I missing?”
The only thing gained from shoving my head in a textbook is a seemingly more intelligent regurgitation of someone else’s words. There is no room for creativity in that. I realized that life is about experiences, laughter, failure, and enjoying every little moment with the people you share it with.
Now that I am a senior, I have made it my goal to explore what creatively fuels me in my everyday life. Take a picture of the sunset every night. Ask more questions. Expect more of myself and others. Laugh more. Take time to be with myself, and be with the people whom I care about.
As I prepare to graduate this year, I have one question for you.
What are you missing?
