AN OBJECT AT REST BY KATIE ENSOR

AN OBJECT AT REST BY KATIE ENSOR

An object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted upon an outside force. Unfortunately being sent home was the outside force that made me an object at rest.

I’ve been living back home with my parents since March. And although I love them very much, I lost all of my creative momentum. It’s been difficult to find the motivation and inspiration needed to be productive. At school, in my studio classes, I got most of my creative energy from my surroundings. Being in an environment of other people working towards their own goals inspired me to do the same. Spending hours at a time in the studio, with resources, professors, and classmates made the perfect place for me to push myself to be a better artist.

But then everything stopped.

I’ve been an object at rest for a while. And although I wished for an outside force to push me back into motion, I realized nothing was changing. I surrounded myself in art hoping something would nudge me. It’s not an outside force that I need, but something within.

I like to believe that I’ve started rolling now. There’s still work to be done to get my speed and momentum back, but it feels nice to be moving again.
