THERE'S ONLY ONE OF YOU BY DYLAN MUELLER
“I don’t need writ-ears, I might bounce ideas, but only I could come up with some shit like this.”
- Kanye West on “Barry Bonds”
Whatever it is that you do creatively – art, music, film, photography, whatever – trust inward. Trust in your experience, ability and instinct. There is something unique about the way you create. Find that point of differentiation and replicate it. Put it in everything you make.
And if you don’t like it anymore, move on. I mean, Kanye went from chipmunk soul to stadium anthems to melancholy auto-tune to orchestral maximalism to industrial punk in less than a decade. Great artists and creatives are defined by the way they are able to express in their unique style.
It takes a lot of time and a lot of tries, but work to find exactly what your process and style look like. This will help you to find the creative confidence to create how you like, regardless of how others believe you should be operating.
There’s only one of you, make that known in everything you create.
