DO SOMETHING CRAZY BY SARAH MCCADDON
I used to think of creativity as something completely foreign to me, something downright out of my reach. I’m frankly not artistic and can’t come up with novel ideas at the flip of a switch to save my life.
This semester has changed my entire perspective about creativity and how I can personally use it in my life. Creativity is how you think. Coming up with multiple solutions. Working past the first right answer and entering the area of discovery. I have used creativity this semester most prominently through my personal life and internal discovery. I am learning to find other solutions when having problems with friends, getting school work done, managing my time, exercising, the list goes on.
By practicing creativity in my everyday life I have learned how important it is to break out of your comfort zone. Saying you need to step out of your comfort zone is one thing, doing it is another. I have had to silence my VOJ more times than I can count this semester and doing so has led to many positive outcomes. Maybe that’s why I never realized my creative ability. The answers that I knew were coming weren’t going to be what I wanted. They were too daunting and so I would choose to stay within my comfortable bubble and claim I wasn’t creative.
Regardless, this semester I have made small, but significant, breakthroughs in my personal relationships just by tapping into this creative mindset, coming up with unique solutions, and pushing through the uncomfortable in order to achieve the greater result. Its made my life a lot more interesting too. So do something crazy, something different, something spontaneous, something weird. Whatever it is, don’t think just do.
