To me, creativity is using what you have around you in a way that others might not think of.

As someone with learning disabilities, I am constantly challenging myself to come up with a different approach to get to the same results as everyone else, but in a way that works for me.

Because I have had to adopt this lifestyle, I am always trying to see how I can use the things around me to work to my advantage or in new ways to solve problems.

The other day, the photographer for my sorority’s composite pictures left her backdrop set up in our suite. Seeing this, my friend and I thought it would be fun to take pictures in front of it. I then thought that this would be a great opportunity for us to take our LinkedIn head shots. We went back to our dorms to change, I grabbed my camera and we both got the photos we needed.

Always thinking about how I can utilize what’s around me in different ways is the best way I know how to be creative.
