Experience Tops Education
Growing up I have always been told to study and focus on school. With this thought buried in my mind, I consistently work hard to get good grades. I sit in my dark room for hours reading and writing about the outside world. This repeated process guided me through high school. I got into the colleges that I wanted and my teachers applauded my effort.
After starting college, I began questioning these daily tasks and the education system as a whole. What is the point of all of these assignments? Many professors hand out busy work and papers that do not actually progress my learning. Experiencing education outside of the classroom and in the real world has taught me much more.
People obtain real knowledge by living, traveling, and doing. I found myself hiding behind my computer searching for the right answers. However, the answers were right outside my door.
Step outside and absorb your surroundings.
Better yet, explore a place you have never been before. I promise it will be much more insightful and enjoyable than finding pictures on the internet. I am not saying that people should not work hard to achieve their goals, but that they need to experience more than what they find in a textbook.
