Table Talk

Table Talk

I attend a mandatory event every evening at our family dinner table. This table was not only a pitstop for our bellies, our leftover mail, and homework to be piled up on; it's where my creativity derives from. A good attitude and straight posture were only acceptable in this setting. No elbows on the table, no sulking. As long and inconvenient as these meals felt, I have never appreciated them more until now. Due to our exceptional age gaps, I never participated in our conversations at the four-legged rectangular surface. I watched and heard my four older siblings' triumphs, mistakes, and growing pains over the past two decades. Creativity can be found in our day-to-day lives and simple interactions, even when just being a witness. As hard as I find that to be.
