Creativity Isn't Always Perfect
I raised myself to be perfect, in school, family, and music.
My goal was to never mess up, no matter what happened, and I worked towards that goal, even
when I didn't need to. I thought that the best way for me to achieve that was endless mindless
repetition, which worked up to a point.
My first recital, all of my music fell off the piano, and I realized that I never learned or even
thought about how to play music, I killed my creativity to practice memorization. I had to keep
going and I discovered exactly what it meant to creatively make music then.
Afterwards I had so many people come up to me and compliment me, not on the perfection of
my music, but how immersed and creative I looked while playing.
