Try It

Try It

by Claire Petas

Perfection.
Don’t fail.
Just do the requirements. Everything needs to be correct. I need a good grade.
I need everyone’s approval.

Try it

Say no! ... well, try to
I have always been a perfectionist, so much that it ended up hurting me. Fear of rejection made

me procrastinate and deliver something so... bland.

Where did my individually go? Where did my creativity go?

Stop a second.

When did you go above and beyond, and push your boundaries for something you’re passionate about?

Me, I think of pottery. This class was like no other with no structure. There was no correct way to do a project. I quickly became in love with doing it. I would spend every day after school and whenever I had a break making pottery... and it never was about perfection or grades.

Why don’t we approach everything like that?

Why don’t we try to push away the need to be perfect... It’s not worth it. Move into a mindset that fosters breaking boundaries to get something special, fun, new, and UNIQUE!

Say no... well, try to... to all of the voices that tell you to fit inside the lines. Try it.
