How society and creativity go in opposite hands
by Gillian Louiso
Creativity is hard for so many of us, me included. We’ve been taught a certain way nearly our whole lives. It’s been ingrained in us to ignore the creativity we possess.
As we age, we become more secluded in so many ways, we become independent, unsure of ourselves, and scared of what society will tell us. So, unlike our lively, outgoing, childishness we embodied in our youth.
We hold who we are in one hand and what we are “supposed to be” in another. Both very clearly hanging close to our sides.
Creativity demands more from us. It pushes us, it pushes out of us. Its challenging but so rewarding. It forces our hands away from us. It stretches us in new ways, literally and figuratively.
It requires work, to break out of our norms and demand more for ourselves and who we want to be. But it’s also rewarding, and frankly fun. Challenging yourself to be your best is exciting.
Both hands hold important things but finding yourself between them, and where you want to be is the most important part. Creativity gets to help you find that spot.
So, stretch those hands out and enjoy finding your creativity and self! It’s fun.
