Progress outweighs Perfection

Progress outweighs Perfection

by Jada Harris

Music is where I find my peace and creativity. This essentially is a piece of me I want to hold on

to for the rest of my life. In terms of the song lyric presented in Beyonces’ - Pretty Hurts, it

makes me think of how a lot of people in today's society are so conditioned to follow the rules or

what's expected of them and never consider what they want or their values. I am currently in

that phase where I no longer want to be perfect, I want to do what I feel is right for me and in

fact I will do what I believe is right for me.

I used to walk around in fear, fear of getting in trouble, making mistakes, and everything falling

apart just because I wanted things to be “perfect.” She said, “We shine the light on whatever's

worse...perfection is a disease of a nation,” meaning we tend to look at all the bad going on and

never acknowledge the good. Today, I challenge myself and anyone who reads this to get rid of

that mindset and enter each situation calmly, accepting all that has yet to come. Society norms

are no longer my norms, I have my own rules I follow, as I am moving to the beat of my own

Drum.
