SCARRED BUT NOT DAMAGED BY LAUREN SPEELMAN
We are not invincible.
We break… physically… and emotionally.
But unlike the leg of a horse, a horcrux or Katherine Heigl's acting career; we can be put back together.
Some of the biggest traumas in my life, from my own injuries to deaths of loved ones, have played a larger part on who I am than I would have ever thought.
We like to revel in the successes and the triumphs, and those are great. But it is the failures, the falls, the torn ACLS and the office hours with Friedman that scream at us to do better. I have fallen many times in my life, and will many more. How many? Who knows. But what I do know is that for however many times I do fall, I will get up one more time.
Maybe there will be a limp, some blood or just the emotional trauma of embarrassment. All of which I welcome with open arms.
The scars on my body don’t scream incapable. In fact it’s quite the opposite. They are visual indicators of where I have been, and I’m excited to see what the next one will be.
