THERE IS NO TRY BY ABBY GRONE
I’m fascinated by Elizabeth Holmes. She is the disgraced CEO of Theranos, a company that was essentially a fraud. Theranos was a multi-billion-dollar company that was going to change health care based on a machine called The Edison (which never worked). I’ve been watching documentaries about her and reading books, and one of her favorite quotes came from Yoda, “Do or do not, there is no try.”
She had a vision for something, and even though it didn’t work, she still did it. As children, we have so many ideas for things that won’t work but through pretending we do it. At that age our creativity knows no bounds and we don’t have a voice in our heads telling us it’s impossible. We don’t try to fly to space in a magic ship, we get a cardboard box and do it.
A creative struggle I face is trying. I limit my ideas because I’m thinking about the logical steps of when I’m going to try it. It’s not easy to unlearn and go back to a child’s state of mind but getting into that zone and doing drives creativity so much farther. And inspiration can be found anywhere. Apparently, I find mine in a woman who is currently facing jail time and being sued for billions.
