RISK OVER RULES BY OLIVIA ONYETT
I’ve always loved dressing out of the ordinary. Over winter break, there was a trend on Tik Tok of people dressing up like characters on a popular TV show. I decided to do this trend but make the outfits as unrealistic and out of the ordinary as possible.
In life and in school, we’re taught to color in the lines and follow the rules to conform. When we’re younger, we’re much more likely to think outside of the box and go all out in our creative ventures. As we grow older, we tend to play it safe because we’re afraid of judgment or failure. Playing it safe is often the enemy of creativity. When we go all out, despite any perceived risk, is when we produce the best results. To create more effectively, we may need to toss out the rules and take on some risk. Often, these rules aren’t truly rules; they’re suggestions. While there is no rule that says you can’t wear SpongeBob pants and a Minions shirt together, it isn’t something that seems normal.
After a few days of posting that video with various outfits, I received over 300k likes. People tend to remember things that are out of the ordinary. Go all out with how you live with the rules in life. When I started doing that, I was surprised by the outcomes in my life, in a good way. I started to yield better results in a lot of different aspects in life. You may too.
