WHY NOT BOTH? BY JOHN CLIFFORD
Throughout high school, I constantly battled with the voice in my head, debating what I should say and how it would affect others. I fought with this for a while until my father gave me one of his famous quotes, "You can be right or effective. But ask yourself, why not be both." At first, I didn't understand what he meant. After reflecting, I realized that you are told you must do something a certain way and think a certain way all your life. You must follow the rules. But to think means you have to risk and to risk means that you have to break the rules. As simple as the statement was, it made me rethink who I was. I started to think for myself and ask why. Why can't I do both?
