NEW CAR SMELL BY TAYLOR BEASLEY

I love new things. The smell of a new car or a fresh coat of paint, the first time you wear a new pair of jeans, sheets just out of the dryer, even buying a new chapstick after losing the previous one. Most of all, I love new ways to solve problems.

As a kid, I had a book of inventions where I collected my objectively genius solutions to modern day childhood tragedies like my parents being too loud while hosting dinner parties or my room being too hot at night. While those motivations may seem redundant now, in the eyes of an 11 year old being raised by parents with lots of chatty friends in one of the warmest states in the United States with no central air conditioning, they were quite real. So I took those problems that mattered to me and came up with creative solutions.

I’ve continued to practice this ever since, whether it’s ideating innovative changes to our healthcare system or simply figuring out how to get a couch through a door frame that is too narrow.

My creativity comes from my desire to experience new things. I'm inherently impatient, and can get bored easily when something doesn’t excite me. The ability to surround myself with things that have never been done before allows me to live a life where no day is the same, no job is repeated, no idea is wrong, and most importantly, leave my mark on the world I live in.
