YOU ONLY COLLEGE ONCE BY MAKAYLA SHEEHAN
We’ve all heard the phrase, “you only college once”. Probably used in the context to get you to go out on a Wednesday Night. These words can quickly turn into a lifestyle, a rabbit hole I resented, until I understood the value that they hold to me.
It’s easy to get caught up in day-to-day life. A thinking that does not go past the weekend. Being around people is something we crave, myself included. It’s too easy to get caught up in the peer pressure, obligations, and social scene.
But it’s fun!
If I’ve learned anything this semester, it’s that something must give. Between your social life, clubs, school, friends, there is no time for yourself. And as you continue on this social bullet train, you start to lose sight of where you were really going. Life becomes about completing tasks and doing the bare minimum instead of striving for something more and going beyond what you even thought you were capable of. College is a time to find yourself, take a few wrong turns, but don’t lose sight of the journey.
You really are only here for four years. It’s a long time, so make the most of it! Find what you value and ways to grow towards it. Don’t get caught up in the gunk because you really only college once.
