IT'S BETTER TO ASK FOR FORGIVENESS THAN PERMISSION
“It’s better to Ask for Forgiveness than Permission”. This is always something that my mom has said to me since I was very young. I had always heard her say that, but I never really took that advice. I had never really been put in a position where I necessarily had to ask for forgiveness or permission in the way that I thought the saying actually meant. I had always thought that the saying was for things that were large and warrant a real apology. It wasn’t until recently that I realized that it is really about being unapologetically yourself. You should not have to ask for permission to be yourself or do what it is that you want to do. I have also been realizing this throughout 252. You can’t always ask what it is that you should do, but rather deal with the ambiguity and do whatever you feel is right at that time. If you keep listening to other people you will never develop a true sense of self. Using this saying has definitely helped me with my creativity. I am less aware of what other people think of me, and truly only care about what I think of myself. I think that this is the first step in becoming a more creative person. A big part of this is silencing your VOJ and being unapologetically you.
