INNOVATION THROUGH DETERMINATION: A FOUNDER'S PERSPECTIVE BY BLAKE FAULKNER
I observe much of the creativity in my life through the work that I do within my startup which is a
large storefront offering hundreds of digital assets for game developers. I frequently spend
hours working on different concepts for user interfaces and user experiences. In developing
those concepts I often feel that I am stretching my creativity and effort to the limits, attempting to
reach outside of my creative complex to find inspiration to innovate from. In the context of the
work that I do within my company, my creativity is driven by my determination to add value in a
meaningful way to the lives of those that I serve. I’m a visual innovator, so when I go to create
something new or coordinate a user experience that hasn’t been done before on another
platform, I draw heavily inspiration from popular art movements. Something that I have l earned
about creativity is that it can come and go, creativity block is a formidable opponent in many
meaningful ways. I would say the best way to confront a creativity block would be to take a step
back and seek out alternative inspirations from sources that you might otherwise ignore
because often the inspiration that we need is around us in some form or fashion.
