THE COMPARING CRISIS BY MIRANDA KRENTZ
“People often say that this or that person has not yet found himself. But the self is not something one finds, it is something one creates.” -Thomas Szasz
The first time I came across this quote I had a mini epiphany.
I often compare myself to others. I envy the people who know what they are doing and know what they want in life. I sometimes think to myself “I wish I just knew what I wanted to do” or “I wish I was one of those people who has it all figured out.”
After seeing this quote, I realized that who I am as a person is not something that I will just stumble upon one day. It’s something I have to create and take into my own hands.
So I did just that. I took initiative.
In my journey I’ve found that I express creativity in how I hold myself. How I act, dress, work, and so on. Knowing that, I’ve started to try new things. I’ve begun to look at old habits and see how I can change those for the better. I’ve become more confident and more creative.
I’m not perfect. I still compare myself to others at times. The most important thing I’ve learned though is to not lose yourself. Remember that you create who you are, so create with intention. Be bold. Take risks. Stand out and become the person you want to be. Create the person you want to become.
