ARE YOU UP FOR THE CHALLENGE? BY JOSH TARR
My sophomore year of highschool, I suffered a horrible concussion attempting a front flip while snowboarding.
After taking 2 weeks off of school due to my concussion and being heckled by my family and friends for not wearing a helmet. I had this sense of fear about snowboarding, subconsciously making the decision to stop.
Fast forward to this past year, I met a group of friends that love snowboarding and skiing. After telling them my story, they invited me to go. At first I was hesitant, but the challenge ultimately motivated me into strapping back in.
I rode up the ski lift, tightened my bindings, and off I went. As I was shredding down, I had this overwhelming sense of freedom igniting a spark in me. That spark lead me to Colorado for my first backcountry mountain experience.
If those friends hadn’t convinced me to go, my snowboard would still be getting dusty on my wall. We tend to build up these walls of “I can’t” or “I won’t” in our minds. I ask you to pick out different things that you want to challenge in your life, whether it's learning something new or applying for that job. You’ll be surprised by the things you can accomplish being uncomfortable.
