WE'RE ALL JUST STORIES BY MADELYN JETT

We’re all just stories.

While I hesitate to generalize, this is something I have to believe. What are our lives without the stories that accompany them?

There is something beautiful about the opportunity to write my own story. Simultaneously, it’s terrifying. My proclivity towards writing horror stories in middle school is not exactly comforting on this front. Usually, my characters would end their tales with at least one less limb than they possessed before the climax.

In this life, I hope to keep all of my digits.

If we write our own stories, then why do I run from my own pen? Why do I fear that each line brings me closer to some unidentifiable word count?

Sometimes I feel like each page is wasted; so many days lost to the ordinary.

I want my story to be incredible. I want people to read it…

I want people to want to read it.

As of today, there are 129,864,880 books in circulation. There are 7.53 billion people alive.

That’s a lot of stories… Too many for anyone to ever read.

If we’re all just stories, we might as well enjoy the write.
