WHY NOT STICK MY ARM IN A COW’S ANUS? BY ANDREA PARK
The picture above is either disgusting to you or has caused you to start reading my blog. I believe that stick up my arm up a cows butt has truly made to think more creatively. Let me give you some context… I was volunteering at a farm in Southern Ohio, and these kids had stereotyped my fellow volunteers and I as just prissy upper-class rich kids who are just there for volunteer hours. We knew that going in, so I was aiming to prove them wrong.
After hours of labor on farms near the town where we were staying, an opportunity came upon us. We were given the chance to feel an unborn live calf, while still inside of its mother. Which meant sticking our hand inside the cow’s anus. In words that sounds so much nicer than the act itself. I volunteered with some of my friends and all of the people who stereotyped us were dumbfounded. Once inside of the cow, I felt the unborn calf move… Most unreal experience in my entire life! This creature inside of this cow is alive and happy, but hasn’t even seen the daylight or taken a breath yet…
This experience reminds me everyday that doing things that are unpredictable and unexpected can change the way people look at you and the way people look in general. I finally realized that doing something crazy, can make an impact on everyone.. May that be for bad or good. Now, my creativity has truly thrived with this mindset, and I am no longer afraid of being judged for doing something unpredictable and different.
