CREATIVE WRITERS WRITE IN PEN BY BEN VANDERTILL

Throughout our lives we hear so much about learning from our mistakes. During my time studying in the entrepreneurship program, this idea of embracing failure has created a whole new vision for me in my life. For this reason, I rarely use pencil – only pen. Not because I never make mistakes, but because I am CONSTANTLY making mistakes.

As we write using pencil, we always have the opportunity to erase our mistakes. However, in life we have no eraser – we are living our lives in pen. Sometimes we are writing our story in purple fine point ink and sometimes in dense black permanent ink.

We can scribble, we can paint over, we can hide – but our life story is one written in pen. While some may think about this as negative thing, a change in perspective (or writing utensil) is a step to creating a better life as a creative. Each line we draw or word we write provides a new starting point for something innovative, something better or something different.

We must continue to write our stories boldly and without hesitation due to fear of failure. As we write in pen and live a life in which we have no eraser, we will begin to see more creation and less mistakes.
