FAIL TO BE FREE BY LUKE SINGER
We have always been taught that failure is something that is looked down upon, or something with a very negative connotation.
Fail a class, fail to come through when people are counting on you, fail to perform under pressure, or failure to communicate, are all things that come to mind when I think about that word. In this class, however, failure is expected, taught, and even rewarded.
This mindset that Dr. Friedman has bestowed upon us is one that I still have a hard time wrapping my mind around; why would I be rewarded for failing at something in my life? The answer lies in the way that he is preparing us for what’s out there in the world.
We will not always succeed. We will face difficult, frustrating, and agonizing failures out there. If no one has ever taught us how to deal with those failures, then how could we ever learn, rebound, or grow from them? We can’t. If we stop learning, rebounding, or growing, then our creativity and innovation stops with it.
So, I thank you, Dr. Friedman, for encouraging our failures and then pushing us to become more.
