DIVERSIFY YOURSELF BY COLE STARK
Get out of the house! Name the last time you said yes to a random adventure. Staying in your comfort zone is a curse; there is nothing more to learn when you are surrounded by the same things everyday. Creativity to me is expanded when you have more perspectives to base it off of. If you’ve never seen the structures built deep in the Amazon rainforest or the ancient phenomenon in Southeast Asia, how will you learn to think like the people that built it? The bane of creativity is having a closed mind. But developing an open mind takes a conscious effort to deny the first right answer and look at things from a different perspective. The only way to learn new viewpoints is to try new things and talk to more people. There are unlimited paths you can make in life, but how can you really appreciate the path you took without knowing about all the other paths? TRY SOMETHING NEW. Go to a place you’ve never been and go on an adventure you didn’t foresee.
Sometimes trying new things takes risk… but the younger you are, the more risk you can take. So take a risk today! If you don’t take a risk to try something else, you cannot learn a new way of thinking, and therefore you cannot become any more creative. The truth of the matter is that people of different backgrounds think in different ways. So when you travel to another culture, your ideas that seem normal to you can be creative to another person. If you leave your comfort zone and spend time learning in another culture, you can go back home and spread creative value to everyone there! Don’t allow your voice of judgment or peers around you discourage your passion of learning more. All of us have the opportunity to change our creative mindsets and we should never let that opportunity pass; it just takes a little risk and discomfort.
