BREAKING THE MOLD BY ADRIANA WILCOXON
Often times, I find myself proud when I come up with a witty Facebook status or clever comment. That is, until my Instagram feed is filled with “hashtag throwback” pictures every Thursday — a few of them being some of my own. I truly believe that once in a blue moon I’ll have a never-before-seen, original, less than 140 word idea that is destined to get a ton of favorites on Twitter. I’ve realized, however, that I have a tendency of subconsciously quoting other Tweets word-for-word that I’ve seen on my feed in the past. I have a habit of taking credit for other people’s ideas without even knowing that I’m doing it! Each person starts their life out as a blank slate, an original individual. However, we tend to all get a little mushed together, and a lot us fit the mold without even knowing it. How are we supposed to differentiate each other in a society where we are surrounded by so many of the same influences? In order to stand out, we must break the mold that was once set in stone, and make it conform to all different forms of individual originality.
